Maresca made a principled decision to choose Manchester City.
Details: Following the official announcement of Enzo Maresca as Manchester City's new manager, London club Chelsea released a statement explaining the reasons behind the dismissal of the 46-year-old specialist.
According to the Blues, despite previous agreements, Maresca stopped fulfilling his duties at Chelsea after learning about the opportunity to take charge of Manchester City.
Chelsea also stated that Manchester City paid them compensation for Maresca, and, as specified by Fabrizio Romano, the compensation amounted to £17 million.
Maresca was in charge of Chelsea from July 2024 to January 2026. Under his leadership, the Blues played 92 matches, securing 55 wins, 16 draws, and 21 defeats. With Chelsea, Maresca won the Conference League and the FIFA Club World Cup.
