Sunderland has turned down Chelsea’s initial bid for midfielder Granit Xhaka and made it clear they have no intention of letting their captain go under any circumstances. This was reported by The Athletic journalist David Ornstein.
According to the source, the London club offered £8 million for the 33-year-old Swiss international. The driving force behind the transfer is Chelsea head coach Xabi Alonso, who knows Xhaka well from their time together at Bayer.
Although Chelsea believes the proposed amount is fair, Sunderland’s management called the offer unacceptable. Moreover, the club considered this approach disrespectful both to the player and the team.

Xhaka’s contract with Sunderland runs until the summer of 2028. The club has already informed the Blues they have no intention of negotiating the midfielder’s sale and will not consider any further offers for the player.
