Defender Benjamin Mendy has filed a multimillion-dollar lawsuit against his former club Manchester City, as reported by Sky Sports.

Mendy is seeking the return of the salary owed to him until the end of his contract, which expired in June 2023. He is acting on behalf of the player Lorient, and the lawsuit has been filed. Manchester City had not paid Mendy his wages since September 2021, after the player was accused of misconduct, but he was later cleared before the end of his contract in June 2023.

Manchester City has not provided any comments on this situation at the moment.

In July 2017, Mendy signed a five-year contract with Manchester City, becoming the most expensive defender in the history of football (€57.7 million). After playing only five matches for City, he tore the cruciate ligaments in his knee in a game against Crystal Palace, missing six months due to injury. In his debut season, he became a champion in England.

Following allegations of several instances of sexual assault against the defender, Manchester City suspended him. In July 2023, all charges against Mendy were dropped, and he joined Lorient as a free agent after the expiration of his contract with Manchester City. The deal with the French club is set for two years.
