Benfica Targets Genk’s Nigerian Striker Tolu Arokodare
As the January transfer window closes, Benfica is preparing to make €9 million bid for Tolu Arokodare, a Nigerian striker for KRC Genk. With 14 goal and 6 assist in 23 league games this season, the 24-year-old has been in excellent form, helping Genk win the Jupiler Pro League.
But Genk is hesitant to part with their star in the middle of the season for fear of jeopardizing their chances of winning the title. To prevent repeating the blunders that cost them the title in the past, such as selling Paul Onuachu in 2023, Sporting director Dimitri De Condé is requesting at least twice the amount paid thus far.
Thorsten Fink, the head coach, has lauded Arokodare's growth, calling him a "complete striker." Genk would like to postpone any transfer until the summer, even if Benfica is pressing for a deal. While leaving his options open, Arokodare is focused on Genk's title dreams.
