FIFA has officially announced the recipient of the 2025 Puskás Award.
Details: The prize for the most stunning goal of the season goes to Santiago Montiel, the forward from Argentina’s Independiente, for his breathtaking scissor-kick strike in the Argentine league match against Independiente Rivadavia.
The sensational moment took place in May 2025. The 25-year-old forward, who is the cousin of World Cup champion Gonzalo Montiel, found the net with an overhead kick from outside the penalty area.
This marks the second consecutive year an Argentine footballer has claimed the Puskás Award – in 2024, Alejandro Garnacho took home the honor.
It’s worth noting: the award is named after legendary Hungarian striker Ferenc Puskás and is presented for the most beautiful goal of the year.
Reminder: Gianluigi Donnarumma was recognized as FIFA’s Best Goalkeeper of 2025.
