Sporting director Max Eberl explained why Bayern decided not to extend Thomas Müller's contract. At the beginning of the year, he truly couldn't envision the club and the Bundesliga without the legendary midfielder, but as the season progressed, the situation changed — Müller's playing time significantly decreased, and his role in the team became episodic.

The club's management, including Eberl, Christoph Freund, and Vincent Kompany, discussed the future of the squad and concluded that they would not offer Müller a new contract. This decision was then agreed upon with the board members — Hainer, Rummenigge, and Hoeness. In March, Thomas was informed that he would leave the club at the end of the season.

Although Müller wanted to stay, the club could not guarantee him the role he expected. Eberl admitted that the decision was emotionally challenging, and he understood how painful it was for the player himself. However, he emphasized that despite the parting, respect and good relations were maintained between the parties.
