Bayern Munich and Germany national team footballer Lena Oberdorf shared on the Pizza & Pommes podcast hosted by Felix Neureuther and Philipp Nagel that she received death threats from fans following her transfer from Wolfsburg to Bayern Munich.
Oberdorf’s transfer to the Munich club was announced in February 2024. However, the move was set to take place in the summer, leaving Oberdorf to finish the season playing for Wolfsburg. This led to a wave of hate and threats from upset Wolfsburg fans.
“For me, personally, it was the worst thing that could have happened. At first, I even deleted my Instagram. It’s just the crap with social media because anyone can write all sorts of nonsense anonymously,” Oberdorf admitted.
The tension peaked at the end of the season when Wolfsburg faced Bayern in the German Cup final. Oberdorf confessed that she almost had a panic attack during that match.
It’s worth noting that Wolfsburg defeated Bayern in that game.
Oberdorf is considered one of Germany’s top footballers. She made her Bundesliga debut at just 16 years old and, despite her young age (23), has already played 51 matches for the national team.
