Bayer sporting director comments on the future of Xabi Alonso and Wirtz at the club

Bayer Leverkusen’s sporting director, Simon Rolfes, has addressed the future of head coach Xabi Alonso and midfielder Florian Wirtz at the club.

Quote: "We feel we have a chance to keep Xabi Alonso and Florian Wirtz at the club beyond the summer. Both have contracts and feel comfortable here.

A new contract for Wirtz? We still need to clarify some details," Fabrizio Romano quotes the executive as saying.

Reminder: Earlier reports suggested that Xabi Alonso is set to take over at Real Madrid this summer. In the eyes of Florentino Pérez and other members of the club’s board, Alonso is seen as the ideal candidate to lead Madrid to new success after Carlo Ancelotti.
