The Champions League playoff clash against Greek side Olympiacos turned into a triumphant night for Bayer Leverkusen striker Patrik Schick. The Czech forward bagged a brace against the Greek club, giving his team a commanding advantage.
Details: Thanks to this double, Patrik Schick etched his name in Bayer's history, becoming only the second player ever to score twice in a single Champions League playoff match for the club. Until today, this feat belonged exclusively to the legendary Michael Ballack. The last time this happened was 24 years ago, when Ballack struck twice in the return leg of the quarterfinals against Liverpool during the club’s historic 2001/02 season.
Back in the day, Ballack led his team all the way to the tournament final, and now the Czech striker’s double gives the “Pharmacists” fans hope for another deep playoff run.
The match ended with a 2-0 victory for Leverkusen.
Reminder: Atletico Madrid has set its sights on Bayer’s leader Alex Garcia.
