Alonso could be on his way back to Anfield after many years away.
Details: According to Topskills UK Sports, citing Okdiario, Liverpool's board has reached a verbal agreement with 44-year-old Xabi Alonso to appoint him as head coach for next season.

Reports suggest Alonso has agreed to sign a three-year deal with an option to extend, but Liverpool's hierarchy is not rushing to dismiss current manager Arne Slot, wanting to give him a final opportunity. According to the source, Slot will secure his position for next season if he manages to win the Champions League. Such an achievement would completely overshadow the Reds’ domestic setbacks and restore the management’s trust in Slot.
At present, Xabi Alonso is officially unemployed after being dismissed by Real Madrid in January this year.
As for Slot, he was appointed Liverpool's head coach in the summer of 2024. His current contract with the Reds runs until the summer of 2027, but it could be terminated early if the team fails to deliver the expected results this season.
