Barcelona is keen on acquiring Cancelo. Manchester City has set an exorbitant price
Considerable disparities in valuation have surfaced between Barcelona and Manchester City regarding the transfer fee for Joao Cancelo, as reported by Diario Sport. Reaching an agreement is expected to be quite challenging.
Barcelona has secured the services of Joao Cancelo on loan for the 2023/2024 season. The Portuguese player has showcased his prowess admirably within the Catalan squad, netting two goals and providing one assist in nine matches. Cancelo primarily operates on the right defensive flank, but his versatility extends beyond that. In essence, he functions as an auxiliary central midfielder.
Barcelona aims to exercise the option to purchase his contract. However, the Catalans are prepared to offer no more than 25 million euros, along with potential bonuses. Manchester City, on the other hand, demands a sum of 50 million euros for Cancelo and is not amenable to another loan arrangement.
Each club possesses its own leverage in negotiations. Barcelona is aware of Cancelo's uncertain future at Manchester City following a rift with Pep Guardiola. Last spring, the Portuguese player was loaned to Bayern Munich, but the Bavarians opted not to secure his permanent transfer. Conversely, Manchester City recognizes Cancelo's desirability to Barcelona and may inflate the asking price.
Earlier, news emerged regarding the burgeoning reputation of the 17-year-old prodigious talent within the ranks of the Catalan club, who recently scored the decisive goal against Athletic.
