Banyana Banyana striker Thembi Kgatlana nominated for Player of the Year award in Mexico after winning that country's league title with Tigres UANL
Thembi Kgatlana has been nominated for the Player of the Season award in Mexico.
The former Women’s African Footballer of the Year scored eight goals in 17 matches for her side, Tigres UANL, as they clinched the 2025 Liga MX Femenil.
Kgatlana faces stif competition from 13 other players for the award including her teammates and forwards Jennifer Hermoso and Diana Ordonez.
The 29-year-old Kgatlana is enjoying a spending year having also helped Banyana Banyana qualify for next year’s Wafcon tournament.
It remains to be seen if the player would be part of the Wafcon squad next year as she is said to not be seeing eye to eye with coach Desiree Ellis.
This theory is heightened by the fact that while Ellis was away on the two-legged qualifier Kgatlana availed herself for the senior national women’s side.
