Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos on preparations ahead of the World Cup: We should have a friendly match in June but I am not sure against who now
Hugo Broos confirms Bafana Bafana will play their last friendly match in June before the World Cup but also disclosed he is in the dark as to which country it will be.
Broos’ Bafana open the World Cup against hosts Mexico on June 11 which means the friendly game will most likely be early in the month.
“There has to be another friendly that is for sure in June so for the moment we don’t know which team or what country but other side I would like to play maybe against a European team or maybe an Asian team," Broos told SABC Sport after Bafana’s 2-1 loss to Panama – at Cape Town Stadium – which was the first loss t at home in five years under Broos.
“Because we’ve got to play against South Korea (in the World Cup). So, we will see in the next weeks and I hope that we will sure have an opponent for June,” he concluded.
Broos said the two matches against the Central American nation has created a pool of players for him yet also a headache on who to select and who to leave out for his final World Cup squad.
“That was also the goal of the two games to see some players, see if we can use them in the future to see some positions also with other players and therefore again it was a very interesting game for us and for me,” he said.
“So, it will not make my choice easier but I saw some things I didn’t know before the game and that is very important.
