Bafana Bafana cancel flight to Mexico due to visa-related issues for the squad as only coach Hugo Broos secured a visa
South Africa's Bafana Bafana have postponed their travel to the World Cup due to visa related issues.
The team was scheduled to leave OR Tambo International Airport this morning for Mexico but those plans were curtailed by the visa problems.
Yesterday the team had a send-off concert ahead of departure scheduled for this morning but it was not to be.
And this is a huge set-back for the team on the eve of the global spectacle taking place in USA, Mexico and Canada.
Bafana face Mexico on June 11 in the tournament's opening match.
Bafana were to depart via a chartered flight for Mexico but, according to reports, an ‘administrative mix up’ saw several players being not issued with their visas.
It is also reported that only coach Hugo Broos was able to secure his travelling visa on time but his technical team did not receive the clearance to travel as yet.
It is not clear by when the team will be allowed to travel for the tournament as the start is closer.
