The Matchday 20 La Liga clash between Real Sociedad and Barcelona at the Anoeta Stadium kicked off with a relentless barrage of attacks from the Catalans, but all three of the visitors’ early goals were chalked off.
Details: The first incident came as early as the 8th minute. Fermín López found the back of the net, but after a VAR review, referee Gil Manzano ruled out the goal for a foul by Dani Olmo on Takefusa Kubo at the start of the move.
Moments later, Barcelona were on the verge of scoring again. Pedri delivered a brilliant cross to Frenkie de Jong, but the Dutch midfielder was caught offside. Barcelona’s second goal was also ruled out.
The third controversial moment arrived in the 27th minute. Lamine Yamal finished off a slick move with a precise shot, but once again VAR intervened—this time for offside. Another spectacular Barcelona goal failed to make the scoreboard.
As a reminder: Barcelona scored against Real Sociedad at the very start of the match, but the goal was disallowed for a foul in midfield.
