The Finalissima clash between Argentina and Spain is running into a host of complications.

Details: After it became clear that the Finalissima match between the national teams of Argentina and Spain was canceled due to safety concerns in Qatar and the failure to secure a new stadium, the respected newspaper AS openly accused Argentine Football Association President Claudio Tapia of deliberate obstruction.

According to reports, despite a suitable option to host the Finalissima at Santiago Bernabéu in Madrid, the Argentine side categorically blocked this proposal, calling it "unacceptable" because, in effect, Spain would be playing at home and would enjoy a huge advantage thanks to their supporters. However, AS claims that Tapia’s refusal to play in Madrid is rooted in personal interests, since he is currently under investigation for tax evasion amounting to €11 million.

At present, Tapia is barred from leaving Argentina, but even if he managed to get clearance to attend the match in Madrid, he would likely end up behind bars even sooner, as Spanish police also have a number of questions for him and, should Tapia arrive for the Finalissima, would immediately detain him.

Tapia himself has yet to comment on these accusations.
