The French central defender Clément Lenglet will not remain at Aston Villa for the upcoming season.

According to Gabriel Sans, the Birmingham club has decided not to exercise the option to buy his contract from Barcelona. However, Barcelona also no longer count on Lenglet, so they will be looking for a new club for him.

It is expected that instead of Lenglet, Aston Villa will sign another central defender.

Lenglet has been under contract with Barcelona since the summer of 2018. Last season, the French footballer played on loan for Tottenham.

For Aston Villa this season, Lenglet has only played 15 matches in the English Premier League.

As a reminder, today Aston Villa extended the contract with head coach Unai Emery. At the end of the season, the "Lions" qualified for the UEFA Champions League for the first time since 1984.
