A major transfer surprise could be brewing at Arsenal ahead of the January window.

Details: According to El Nacional, Spanish midfielder Martin Zubimendi could leave Arsenal as early as January 2027, with Real Madrid emerging as one of the most attractive potential destinations. The 27-year-old is reportedly unhappy with his limited playing time under Mikel Arteta and wants a more prominent role in the team.

Zubimendi expected to become a key figure in Arsenal's midfield after arriving in London, but his involvement has been significantly reduced. The Spaniard is determined to play regularly, especially as he looks to maintain his importance to the national team ahead of Euro 2028.

Real Madrid are among the clubs monitoring his situation. A return to Spain could offer the midfielder a familiar environment and an opportunity to regain the prominent role he enjoyed before moving to England.

Interestingly, Arteta is reportedly prepared to facilitate the midfielder's departure if his situation does not improve. Arsenal would consider possible solutions to make a transfer happen should Zubimendi decide that leaving is necessary. However, no agreement has been announced, and the situation remains dependent on developments before January.

It is worth noting that Zubimendi joined Arsenal in the summer of 2025 and remains under contract until June 2030. According to Transfermarkt, the Spanish international's market value currently stands at €75 million.

Reminder: Official! Mikel Arteta ties his future to Arsenal until summer 2030
