Former Arsenal center-back Per Mertesacker has made a very important decision in his life.

The 39-year-old German officially opened a new mental health center in London, aimed at anonymously assisting people suffering from mental health problems.

"This is an issue close to my heart. Our mental well-being is just as important as our physical well-being", commented Mertesacker on the center's opening.

Mertesacker played for Arsenal from 2011 to 2018, when he retired from professional football. Currently, Mertesacker serves as the head of Arsenal's academy.

In addition to Arsenal, Mertesacker played for Werder Bremen and Hannover, and he was part of the German national team that won the 2014 World Cup.
