In the early hours of June 26, the second round of the group stage matches of Copa America 2024 took place in Group A.

In the first match, Canada unexpectedly defeated Peru. In the first half, Peru had more ball control but failed to create any significant threats to the Canadian goal.

The turning point came after the break when Peru was reduced to ten men as Miguel Araujo received a straight red card. Canada capitalized on their numerical advantage in the 74th minute. Jacob Shaffelburg set up Lille forward Jonathan David, who confidently slotted the ball into the net.

With this victory, Canada now occupies second place in the group with 3 points.

In the central match, Chile tried to halt the reigning world champions, Argentina. For a long time, they succeeded in keeping Argentina at bay.

Early in the game, Lionel Messi struck a beautiful long-range shot that hit the post. In the second half, Nicolas Gonzalez fired powerfully from the edge of the box, but Claudio Bravo managed to deflect the ball onto the crossbar.

Argentina dominated the match, taking 22 shots with 8 on target, but only managed to score in the 88th minute. After a corner, the ball bounced around in the penalty area, and Lautaro Martinez tapped it into the net.

With this victory, Argentina secured the top spot in the group. They have 6 points, while Canada has 3, and both Chile and Peru have 1 point each.
