Argentina Set to Face Brazil With Key Absences and World Cup Spot on the Line

With six starters ruled out and qualification for the FIFA World Cup Mexico/United States/Canada 2026 within reach, Lionel Scaloni is racing against time to finalize Argentina's lineup for the Superclásico de las Américas against Brazil. In addition to the already known absences of Lionel Messi, Paulo Dybala, Lisandro Martínez, Montiel, Lo Celso, and Lautaro Martínez, Nicolás González is suspended following the 1-0 victory over Uruguay.

Rodrigo De Paul, having recovered from a muscular overload, will be the main novelty in the team and is set to replace Giuliano Simeone, according to ESPN. The Argentine coach might also include Ángel Correa as a partner for Julián Álvarez in attack, although it seems likely he will maintain the core lineup that triumphed in Montevideo.

With this information in mind, Argentina's possible lineup would be: Emiliano Martínez; Molina, Romero, Otamendi, Tagliafico; De Paul, Paredes, Mac Allister, Enzo Fernández; Almada and Álvarez.
