Another tragedy: Germany national team hockey player dies of cancer at just 26
Eisbären Berlin forward Tobias Eder has passed away from cancer at the age of 26, reports Bild. In light of his passing, the team's scheduled game against Ingolstadt has been postponed.
Eder was diagnosed with a malignant tumor last summer. Initially, chemotherapy showed promising results, and the forward was even able to attend Eisbären Berlin’s home matches. However, his condition recently took a critical turn, leading to his tragic passing.
"Eisbären Berlin is in shock. Tobias Eder has passed away at the age of 26. The forward died from complications caused by cancer. We express our deepest condolences to his family, his fiancée, his friends, and everyone who knew and cherished him. Our thoughts are with them in this difficult time," the club said in an official statement.
Eder joined Eisbären Berlin in 2023 after previously playing for EHC Red Bull Munich and Düsseldorfer EG. He earned 27 caps for the German national team and was part of last year’s World Championship squad, where he scored in Germany’s victory over Slovakia.
