Another setback: Real Madrid's key defender's recovery is delayed

It's been a tough week for Real Madrid in terms of news from the infirmary. Following the news that Thibaut Courtois suffered a meniscus tear during training on Tuesday, Los Blancos received bad news about another long-term absence: David Alaba.

It is reported that the defender's recovery process is slower than expected. To speed up the rehabilitation process, club doctors have sent the player home to Austria.

Alaba has been sidelined since December when he tore his cruciate ligament. His return date was set for the beginning of next season, but now that is already in question.

The 31-year-old Austrian managed to participate in 17 matches for the Whites across all competitions before his injury, registering two assists.

Real Madrid is comfortably leading in La Liga. After the international break, the Galacticos will face Athletic Bilbao on March 31st.
