Another defeat. Barcelona players' ratings in the match against Betis
Barcelona, after an impressive victory in the Spanish Super Cup, returned to the Copa del Rey. Here they faced Real Betis, among whose ranks plays Víctor Roque, who didn’t find success in Catalonia (incidentally, he was the only one who created a real goal-scoring threat for the Blaugrana).
This match can be seen as a test to determine whether Barcelona has emerged from the crisis that began in November. It seems Barcelona passed the test—the Blaugrana calmly dismantled the Verdiblancos with a 5-1 scoreline. Of course, the Verdiblancos themselves are in crisis this season...
The match start was slightly delayed. First, Real Betis formed a guard of honor for Barcelona to celebrate their Super Cup victory. Then, there was a minute of silence in memory of Hugo Sotil, a former Barcelona player who played for the team back in the 1970s.
Best players of the match for Barcelona
- Lamine Yamal
Lamine today provided 2 assists and scored 3, almost 4, goals! Out of which only 1 assist and 1 goal were officially counted...
First, a beautiful combination with Koundé in the 27th minute—counted. Then another in the 49th! Jules scored, but a marginal offside ruined everything, VAR disallowed the goal. And then a goal in the 55th minute (!)… which was also disallowed due to a small offside in the previous episode.
And then, in the 58th minute, Lamine intercepted the ball near his penalty area (!), carried it through the entire field (!), a powerful shot (!)... the shot was blocked. It should have been his goal! From the block, the ball ricocheted perfectly for Raphinha to score—his goal. Thankfully, at least in the 75th minute, Lamine’s goal was counted... and even then, not immediately!
- Jules Koundé
As mentioned earlier, Jules effectively scored 2 goals today. It’s a shame the second was disallowed. On the right flank, he and Yamal form a very effective partnership, which deserved its 2 goals today. At the same time, Jules worked well defensively (all of Barcelona's defenders recorded 7 defensive actions each today). Of course, he conceded the penalty… but who cares when you’re winning 5-0 in the 83rd minute?
- Dani Olmo
Formally, Dani was at the spearhead of the attack today, replacing Lewandowski. Although he was often seen as a full-back or a defensive midfielder… it didn’t matter, as it didn’t stop him from being at the forefront of the attack: 5 shots on goal (2 on target), the most in the game. But he stood out today with his passing: 2 key passes, 2 assists, including a beautiful assist to Ferran Torres.
- Honorable mentions:
It’s worth noting that substitute players who appeared in the second half—Ferran Torres and Fermín López—also contributed to the result. In any other team, these players would be starters. But at Barcelona, unfortunately, they barely get playing time.
