Tennis player Taylor Fritz has donated his first-round prize money from the Australian Open to assist victims of the devastating California wildfires, reports Bild. The donation totaled €80,000.

Fritz explained his decision as a way to support the region he considers his home. Having spent much of his life in Los Angeles, the tennis star remains closely tied to the area.

He revealed that some of his friends and family were directly impacted by the fires, with several relatives forced to evacuate. Tragically, the home where his brothers grew up was completely destroyed.

"Many people have suffered. I think if you have the means to help, you should. My donation is going to the Los Angeles Wildfire Relief Fund," Fritz shared.

Among others offering their support was American tennis player Madison Keys, who donated €19,500 to the Los Angeles firefighting services.

The California wildfires have claimed at least 24 lives and left thousands of people homeless.
