Alonso as a coach could be twice as valuable to Liverpool as he is as a player

In the summer of 2004, Liverpool paid €12 million for the then 23-year-old Real Sociedad midfielder Xabi Alonso. Nowadays, he is no longer a player, but still attracts the attention of the Merseysiders as a coach.

However, according to Sky Deutschland, inviting the Spaniard as a replacement for Jürgen Klopp will cost Liverpool even more. Bayer, where Alonso is currently employed, can ask for his mentor in the region of 24 million euros.

Interestingly, even if Alonso's return to Anfield happens, it still won't be the most expensive coaching move in history. The bar is still held by Julian Nagelsmann, for whom Bayern paid RB Leipzig approximately 25 million euros in 2021.

It should be recalled that according to media reports Alonso is now almost the main favourite to take charge of Liverpool, although the Munich side, who will also be without a coach at the end of the season, are also interested in the specialist.
