Algerian Football Set for Major Reforms: Salary Cap and Contract Overhaul Proposed FAF-Fédération Algérienne de Football

In a strong effort to improve Algerian football, Walid Sadi, the head of the Algerian Football Federation (FAF) and the new Sports Minister, has introduced a set of changes. The main part of these changes is a limit on how much players in Ligue 1 Mobilis can earn, set at 10,000 euros per month, starting from the 2025-2026 season.

This new rule is intended to make clubs less reliant on government funding and push them to properly manage their finances. If clubs wish to pay players more than the cap, they must demonstrate that they are earning enough money on their own, a step toward more stable financial management.

Sadi also shared plans to update player contracts to offer more security and better control, with the aim of bringing Algerian football up to date and closer to global standards. These changes are expected to start during the winter transfer window, which could lead to big shifts in how player transfers are handled.

Although these changes are thought to be essential for sustained expansion, clubs and players may face difficulties as they adjust to the new financial environment.
