Óscar “Machillo” Ramírez has been officially named as the new head coach of Liga Deportiva Alajuelense, in a move that stirs nostalgia and high expectations among fans. According to La República, the club’s most decorated manager, who led Alajuelense to five league titles, returns to the helm after years away from top-tier football.

The club made the announcement via a creative social media post inspired by a recent viral trend, underlining the emotional significance of Ramírez’s return. His last stint ended when he left to coach the Costa Rican national team, but he remained close to the club, working with youth teams and helping develop new talent.

That connection ultimately paved the way for his comeback, which arrives at a critical juncture in the 2025 Clausura. Alajuelense remains unbeaten but has drawn 10 matches and won only 8, leading to the departure of Alexandre Guimaraes and opening the door for Ramírez’s new tenure.

Ramírez will be supported by two club legends, Bryan Ruiz and Wardy Alfaro, who will serve as assistant coaches.

The challenge ahead is clear: turn stalemates into victories, maintain the unbeaten streak, and push for the championship. With proven leadership, deep roots in the club, and renewed motivation, Ramírez returns to the León bench aiming to restore the team’s glory.
