Alajuelense Considers Sacking Guimaraes Ahead of Clash With Saprissa

Alajuelense’s head coach Alexandre Guimaraes is on the brink of dismissal just days before a crucial match against archrivals Deportivo Saprissa, according to Everardo Herrera. The club’s board has been in continuous deliberation since Wednesday, following a disappointing draw with Sporting that drew heavy criticism from both fans and management.
Despite remaining unbeaten and boasting eleven clean sheets this season, Alajuelense has registered ten draws, which has significantly jeopardized their playoff hopes. The lack of attacking efficiency has fueled discontent among supporters, many of whom called for Guimaraes’ resignation during the latest match at Alejandro Morera Soto Stadium.
The decision to part ways with the Costa Rican coach is reportedly under serious consideration. However, the process has been delayed due to the absence of club president Joseph Joseph, currently traveling in China. Another factor complicating the decision is the need to identify a suitable replacement.
Guimaraes has responded to the criticism by highlighting the team’s statistical dominance in games they failed to win. Nevertheless, pressure continues to mount, and the next few hours will be crucial in determining whether he remains in charge for the highly anticipated clásico against Saprissa.
