There have been dramatic changes in the lineup of Saudi club Al Hilal due to the foreign player quota.
Details: According to insider Fabrizio Romano, the Saudi club has officially dropped Uruguayan striker Darwin Núñez and defender Pablo Marí from the squad list for league matches.
The main reason behind this decision is the high-profile transfer of Karim Benzema. After the arrival of the Ballon d'Or winner, the team found itself with a surplus of foreign players, forcing the coaching staff to make some tough choices to fit their new superstar within the domestic league’s regulations.
The situation is particularly tough for Darwin Núñez: now, the Uruguayan will only be eligible to play for Al Hilal in AFC Champions League matches. He won’t be available for domestic league games. The same fate has befallen Spanish defender Pablo Marí.
It’s worth noting that this season, the Uruguayan has already played 23 matches for Al Hilal across all competitions, scoring 7 goals and providing 5 assists.
Reminder: Karim Benzema has been teasing Ronaldo after his move to Al Hilal.
