Ahead of the FIFA Club World Cup 2025, Al Ahly treasurer Khaled Mortagy has shot down rumors that the team is interested in signing Cristiano Ronaldo. Speaking on Al Ahly TV, Mortagy addressed reports that the Portuguese superstar's contract with Al Nassr was about to expire and that the Egyptian powerhouses could try to sign him.

"I don’t believe Al Ahly will sign players just before the Club World Cup, especially someone of Ronaldo’s caliber, as it would be challenging for them to adapt and integrate with the squad in such a short time," Mortagy stated.

Mortagy stressed that any possible additions would fit with head coach Marcel Koller's vision, even if he recognized the team's desire to bolster its roster. "The focus is on team cohesion and readiness for the tough challenges in our group, which includes Inter Miami, Palmeiras, and Porto," he stated.

Mortagy also reiterated Al Ahly's confidence in its current squad, saying, "We already have Africa’s best players, and our goal is to make a strong impression on the global stage."
