Ajax has temporarily suspended its general director, Alex Kroes, from his duties. In an official statement from the club, it was mentioned that they are considering the possibility of parting ways with Kroes permanently.

Ajax discovered that Kroes purchased 17,000 shares of the club a week before his appointment as general director on August 2 last year.

After consultations with legal experts, Ajax concluded that Kroes engaged in insider trading, which is considered a criminal offense. The club will cooperate with law enforcement agencies moving forward.

Kroes' duties and responsibilities will be taken over by his colleagues on the board of directors. An extraordinary shareholders' meeting will be held soon to discuss the club's next steps.

Ajax currently sits in fifth place in the Eredivisie after 27 rounds. Additionally, they were eliminated from the group stage of the Europa League and lost to Aston Villa in the Round of 16 of the Conference League.

Ajax will have a new head coach this summer. It's likely that Pep Lijnders, assistant to Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool, will take over the position.
