Ahly Signs Bencharki in Move That Shocks Zamalek Fans
Former Zamalek star Hazem Emam has described Ahly’s signing of Moroccan winger Achraf Bencharki as a painful blow to Zamalek fans.
Speaking on On Sport FM, Emam said, “Bencharki was key player for Zamalek, winning several titles with the club. Ahly has played the transfer market wisely this winter.”
Also he stated that the move would increase pressure on Zamalek’s board, as fans are likely to criticize the management for failing to bring Bencharki back.
After ending his contract with Qatari team Al Rayyan and paying the release clause himself, Bencharki landed in Cairo on Wednesday. He’ll undergo a physical before formally signing a two and half year contract with Ahly. The final season of the agreement can only be carried out with both parties' approval.
The Moroccan winger will earn $1.3 million a year after receiving $650000 for the last half of the current campaign.
Given the player's previous success with Zamalek, Ahly's choice to recruit Bencharki not only strengthens their squad, but also sparks intense debate among Zamalek fans.
