After Akhomach's Injury: Morocco Calls Up Toulouse striker
Morocco's coach, Walid Regragui, has added Toulouse forward Zakaria Aboukhlal to the team to strengthen the squad before the Africa Cup of Nations 2025 qualifiers against Gabon and Lesotho. Aboukhlal is replacing Villarreal’s Ilias Akhomach, who got a serious injury last weekend in La Liga.
Morocco will play against Gabon away this Friday, and then have a home game against Lesotho three days later. The Atlas Lions are currently at the top of Group B with a perfect record, having earned 12 points from their first four matches.
Morocco has already qualified because it is the host nation for the 2025 AFCON, and the team continues to perform well to keep their morale high to be ready for the tournament, which is set to take place from December 21, 2025 to January 18, 2026.
