AFCON 2027 qualifiers: Guinea bounce back with win over Kenya
Serhou Guirassy and his team-mates secured a home victory on Thursday 1 October during the matchday 2 of qualifiers for the next Africa Cup of Nations.
The Syli Nationale bounced back from their 2-1 defeat to South Africa in Johannesburg on 26 September. Paulo Duarte’s side, hosting Kenya at the 28 September Stadium on Thursday, did what was needed to secure the three points.
Guinea’s national team sealed their victory in the first half. The sole goal, scored by the ever-reliable Serhou Guirassy in the 31st minute, secured victory for Guinea in front of their home crowd at the 28 September Stadium.
Both teams showed their intent for the remainder of the match, but no further goals were scored. The Syli Nationale thus maintained their lead until the final whistle.
It was a narrow but valuable victory for Paulo Duarte’s side, who were looking to bounce back. Thanks to this win, the Guinea national team have secured their first points from the opening two matchdays of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
The Syli Nationale now sit second in Group D behind South Africa, who have six points.
