AFCON 2027 Qualifier: Guinea-Bissau Humiliate Nigeria 3-0 in Bissau as Eric Chelle Suffers First Defeat

Guinea-Bissau handed Nigeria a heavy 3-0 defeat in their AFCON 2027 qualifier at the 24 de Setembro National Stadium in Bissau on Tuesday, inflicting Eric Chelle’s first loss since he took charge of the Super Eagles.

The hosts made their intentions clear early in the game and took the lead in the 15th minute through Franculino Djú. The forward found space before firing a left-footed effort past Nigeria goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali.

Nigeria struggled to find a response as Guinea-Bissau held onto their advantage going into half-time.

The Djurtus continued to pose a threat after the break and were rewarded with a second goal in the 66th minute. Mama Baldé found the back of the net to put Guinea-Bissau in a commanding position.

The Super Eagles pushed forward in search of a way back into the game but could not break down the hosts' defence.

Guinea-Bissau then completed the rout in the fifth minute of stoppage time when Álvaro Djaló scored the third goal, sealing a memorable victory for the home side.

The result leaves Guinea-Bissau top of Group L with six points from two matches after their earlier 2-0 victory over Tanzania.

Nigeria remain on three points following their opening 2-1 comeback win over Madagascar.

For Chelle, the defeat brings an end to his unbeaten start as Nigeria head coach and marks his first loss since taking charge of the Super Eagles.
