AFCON 2025: Tunisia Top Group C After Convincing 3–1 Win Over Uganda
Tunisia have taken early control of Group C at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations after an impressive 3–1 victory over Uganda on Tuesday night, sending a strong message to their rivals in the group.
The Carthage Eagles wasted no time asserting their dominance, racing into a two-goal lead in the first half. Midfielder Ellyes Skhiri opened the scoring with a well-taken effort before Elias Achouri doubled the advantage, capitalizing on Tunisia’s high tempo and attacking intent. Uganda struggled to cope with Tunisia’s pace and movement, spending much of the opening half on the back foot.
Tunisia maintained control after the break and put the result beyond doubt in the 64th minute, when Achouri struck again to make it 3–0. His second goal of the night highlighted Tunisia’s attacking efficiency and composure in front of goal.
Although Uganda were largely outplayed, they managed to grab a late consolation in stoppage time. Omedi’s shot deflected off Tunisian defender Yan Valery, wrong-footing the goalkeeper and finding the back of the net to reduce the deficit.
The win places Tunisia at the top of Group C on goal difference, following Nigeria’s 2–1 victory over Tanzania earlier in the competition. Nigeria now sit second in the group, setting up an exciting clash with Tunisia in the next round of matches.
