AFCON 2025: Achraf Hakimi Fit to Face Zambia as Morocco Chase Top Spot
Morocco head coach Walid Regragui has confirmed that captain Achraf Hakimi is fully fit and available for selection ahead of the Atlas Lions’ final Group A match against Zambia at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 on Monday.
The Paris Saint-Germain right-back has yet to feature in Morocco’s opening two games of the tournament, despite earlier indications that he was ready to play. However, Regragui confirmed on Sunday that Hakimi has completed his recovery and is ready to return to action. The Morocco coach also praised PSG for their cooperation, underlining the role the French club played in allowing the defender to link up early with the national team and continue his recovery under Morocco’s medical team.
“I want to thank Paris St Germain. If Hakimi is back with us today, it's thanks to them,” Regragui said.
"There's not a single club in the world that would release a player 15 days before the start of the Africa Cup of Nations.
Morocco currently sit at the top of Group A with four points from two matches. A win against Zambia will see them finish first in the group and book a place in the AFCON 2025 round of 16, while a draw would also be enough to secure qualification.
