Achraf Hakimi, a Moroccan soccer player, continues to excel on and off the field, earning yet another accolade for his remarkable career. The 2024 "Golden Lion" award, presented by Morocco's Al-Mountakhab daily, went to the Paris Saint-Germain defender and Morocco's squad captain. Forty-one journalists and sports specialists selected this award.
Hakimi is the second Moroccan to win this important award, after goalkeeper Yassine Bounou won it in the 15th edition.
This recognition comes after a very successful season where Hakimi played a key role in Paris Saint-Germain's wins in the French League, the French Cup, and the French Super Cup. Additionally, he led Morocco to a perfect record in the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers and helped the Olympic team secure bronze at the Paris 2024 Games.
The 26-year-old topped the poll with 162 points, ahead of Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman of Atalanta (96 points) and Moroccan striker Soufiane Rahimi of Al Ain (90 points).
Hakimi's ongoing success has positioned him as a top candidate for the 2024 African Player of the Year award, which will be given out on December 16. PSG publicly congratulated Achraf Hakimi for winning the Golden Lion Award in 2024 on social media.
