Achraf Hakimi Equals Samuel Kuffour’s Champions League Record for Most Appearances by an African Defender
Hakimi becomes the African defender with the most appearances in UCL history
Moroccan international Achraf Hakimi has written his name into the history books of the UEFA Champions League after equalling the long-standing record held by former Ghanaian defender Samuel Kuffour.
The Paris Saint-Germain full-back has now made 72 appearances in Europe’s elite club competition, the highest number recorded by an African defender.
Hakimi reached the milestone following years of consistent performances across several top European clubs. Over the course of his career, the Moroccan star has featured in the Champions League while representing Real Madrid, Borussia Dortmund, Inter Milan, and Paris Saint-Germain.
