AC Milan president discusses San Siro demolition and compares it to Wembley x.com/MilanPosts

The future of San Siro stadium in Milan has long been a contentious issue. The stadium is technically outdated, and both Inter and AC Milan will eventually need to make a decision on its future. While the outcome remains uncertain, AC Milan president Paolo Scaroni has proposed a rather drastic solution.

Details: Scaroni has consistently advocated for the complete demolition and reconstruction of San Siro, similar to what was done with London’s Wembley in the 2000s. However, the historical significance of San Siro remains a significant obstacle, even though Wembley also holds immense cultural value.

Quote: “Six years ago, I said San Siro needs a rebuild; it’s old and outdated. I wanted to tear it down and build a new one next to it. They told me, ‘Are you crazy? You want to demolish the Scala del Calcio [a term used to describe San Siro in comparison to Milan’s La Scala opera house]?’ And I responded, ‘What Scala del Calcio? It’s a relic.’ Eventually, Wembley, which is even more iconic, was torn down…” Scaroni quoted by Nicolo Schira.

Reminder: Due to the uncertainty surrounding San Siro’s renovations, UEFA revoked San Siro’s hosting rights for the 2027 Champions League final.
