Abedi Pele Urges GFA to Share FIFA Financial Lessons with Clubs in Ghana
Ghanaian football icon Abedi Ayew 'Pele' has stressed the significance of financial education in football, urging the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to share lessons from the FIFA Financial Governance Workshop with local teams.
Pele underlined the need of financial understanding for players and officials during the workshop's closing ceremony on January 31, 2025, in Accra. "I competed at the top level, and people invested in my career. "Financial education is critical for football's growth," he stated.
The three-day gathering included officials from ten African countries, including Ghana, Nigeria, and Kenya. The topics discussed were financial management, transparency, and responsibility. FIFA's Christopher Suppiger led the program, which aimed to improve financial control in African football.
Pele, a UEFA Champions League winner with Olympique Marseille, called on associations to implement these lessons to ensure long-term financial stability in football.
