In the 5th round of the UEFA Youth League, Arsenal hosted Bayern Munich and witnessed a historic moment late in the match when 13-year-old Luis Muñoz took the field for the Gunners.
Details: Luis Muñoz, just 13 years old, became the youngest footballer ever to play in a UEFA Youth League match. The 2011-born midfielder entered the game in the 90+2nd minute. At that point, Arsenal was leading 3-2.
This season, Muñoz has so far played only for the U16 team, helping Arsenal clinch the U16 Premier League title with a final win over Aston Villa. Making his debut alongside him was Emerson Nwaneri—the younger brother of first-team player Ethan Nwaneri.
The win over Bayern was Arsenal Academy’s first victory in this season’s Youth League, lifting the Gunners off the bottom of the group and up to 30th place overall.
Reminder: Bayern striker Harry Kane commented on the upcoming Champions League clash with Arsenal, calling it the toughest match of the season.
