A spectacle for royalty! Members of the British royal family love watching darts
Famous sports promoter Barry Hearn, who has been instrumental in the rise of darts, shared that under his leadership, the sport has gained tremendous popularity, with even royal family members tuning in to watch, The Sun reports.
Hearn explained how he transformed darts from a pastime once considered exclusive to the working class into a game adored by millions of fans.
"We've transformed that now and members of the Royal Family sit down to watch darts. MPs and Premier League footballers begging for tickets to sit next to a docker or a newsagent or a busman," Hearn said in the documentary Game of Throws.
It is known that Prince Harry attended the World Darts Championship live in 2014. Among other celebrities who enjoy the sport are Tottenham Hotspur footballer James Maddison and singer Lewis Capaldi.
The final of this year's World Darts Championship between Luke Humphries and Luke Littler drew 11 million viewers. So Hearn is certainly right — darts has indeed become a giant sport with millions of fans.
