A sensational return home! Paulo Fonseca leaves Lyon midway through the season to take charge of a new club
Sporting Lisbon have officially unveiled renowned Portuguese manager Paulo Fonseca as the club’s new head coach.
Details: The appointment of the 53-year-old manager was formally announced by the Lions’ official media channels. Seeking a return to Portuguese football and an opportunity to work with one of the country’s leading clubs, Fonseca has left French side Olympique Lyonnais to take on a long-term sporting project in the capital.
Sporting’s management are confident that Fonseca’s attacking philosophy, extensive European experience and ability to develop young talent will help keep the Lions at the top of the Primeira Liga. The new head coach has already been presented at the José Alvalade Stadium and begun preparing the squad for their upcoming competitive fixtures.
It is worth noting that Paulo Fonseca has previously won numerous trophies in European football during his spells in charge of Shakhtar Donetsk, Italian sides Roma and Milan, French clubs Lille and Lyon, as well as Portuguese teams Porto and Braga.
