A sea of money! Jeff Bezos could buy Liverpool
One of the world’s most influential investors could soon set foot at Anfield.
Details: Amazon founder Jeff Bezos is reportedly in talks to join an investment consortium bidding for a minority stake in Liverpool. The group is led by former Queens Park Rangers co-owner Amit Bhatia.
The consortium is said to have tabled a preliminary offer of £1.35 billion for a 30% stake in the club. That valuation puts Liverpool at approximately £4.5 billion.
Bezos himself has yet to give final approval to join the project. Should he sign on, the American billionaire would secure his own share in the English club.
Fenway Sports Group has already confirmed that the consortium led by Bhatia has expressed interest in strategic minority investment. However, the current owners have given no indication of a willingness to sell a controlling stake in Liverpool.
It’s worth noting that FSG acquired Liverpool in 2010 for £300 million. The deal currently under discussion values the club at 15 times that amount.
Reminder: Urgent! Liverpool targets France national team star!
