A scandal erupts in Turkish football involving Mourinho. What's going on?
Fenerbahçe head coach José Mourinho has often lamented the standard of refereeing in the Turkish league. As it turns out, his suspicions were far from unfounded.
Details: Turkish media have published what are allegedly messages from members of the local federation's disciplinary committee. One of them was directed specifically at Mourinho, stating, "We will make him pay."
These messages sparked outrage within Fenerbahçe, with the club accusing the committee of bias, demanding a transparent investigation, and warning of reputational risks for the federation as an institution. As a result, disciplinary committee chairman Celal Nuri Demirtürk and the entire board resigned.
Recall: Mourinho has previously faced strict disciplinary sanctions on several occasions. After a match against Galatasaray, he criticized the refereeing and said that "the bench was jumping like monkeys," resulting in a four-match suspension. Later, his playful nose tweak of Galatasaray coach Okan Buruk led to an additional three-match ban.
