Recently, there has been loud talk in Spain about the need for changes in competition refereeing, and we are already witnessing the sprouts of these reforms.

Details: According to Mundo Deportivo, several changes concerning the VAR system will take place from next season.

  • Decisions following video assistant interventions will be announced throughout the stadium.
  • Conversations with the VAR room will be broadcast live. Currently, this is only done after the match.

Among other changes, club representatives can participate in weekly seminars for referees, and special courses on the rules of the game will be organized for coaching staffs.

Also, the territorial restriction is being lifted, where a referee could not officiate a match involving teams from the region he hails from. However, for key derbies, this will remain.

Reminder: It was previously reported that the Spanish federation is ready for a reform of the refereeing body.
