President of the Spanish federation promises changes in refereeing starting next season

One of the most contentious issues in Spanish football right now is undoubtedly refereeing. Partly, this is due to Real Madrid, which has stirred up quite a buzz around it. However, the Spanish federation is not planning to turn a deaf ear or silence others by ignoring the issue, but is instead ready for constructive dialogue.

Details: The president of the Spanish federation, Rafael Luzan, agreed that the refereeing body needs more transparency, so the arbitration reform in Spanish football could take place as early as the 2025/2026 season.

Quote: “We have a clear horizon. We will do everything possible to ensure that this model and structural changes are implemented by the start of the next season 2025/2026. We are at the starting point, such a meeting has not happened before. Let's see how far we can go.

There are regulations, rules, the sports law. Everything was laid on the table. The English model, the German model have already been discussed... Although none of them are perfect, there are complaints everywhere.

The demand for transparency was voiced. This concerns the appointments of referees, which are made through a committee consisting of representatives from the federation, La Liga, and the CSD. Or regarding the demotion and promotion of referees, how they are evaluated... Perhaps a committee should be created to report on all of this,” Luzan stated.

Reminder: The English model of building the refereeing body, specifically PGMOL, was mentioned as one of the potential models for adoption in Spain.
