A new engine for Simeone? Atlético close to strengthening midfield
Atlético have made progress in negotiations for Sporting midfielder Morten Hjulmand.
Details: According to As, the Madrid club has already agreed a contract with the 27-year-old midfielder until 2031, with an option to extend for another season.
Sporting value Hjulmand at around €60 million, but Atlético are unwilling to close the deal under those terms. Club sporting director Mateu Alemany is determined to negotiate a lower fee.
The final transfer fee is expected to be around €45 million including bonuses. For the Madrid outfit, this looks like a move to secure a ready-made midfield operator without overpaying Sporting's initial asking price.
Last season in the Portuguese league, Hjulmand made 27 appearances, scoring 3 goals and providing 4 assists.
